Janet Ratty

Mrs. Janet Ratty is the Volunteer Coordinator at Wellington Christian School.  Her love for volunteering started as a thirteen year old child living in Maryland and working at an area nursing home.  The thrill of helping people and making them feel special about themselves did more for her than it did for them.  She had the chance to step out of herselfself and learn empathy for others.  She also discovered that the simple act of listening was an extremely bonding experience.  She was hooked!

In 1980, her journey really began.  "I was blessed with the most incredible career I could ever imagine – being a mom to three children!"  She found many opportunities to be involved in their lives and still stay at home with them, because of volunteering.  It was here that she learned so much about dependability, teamwork, and relationships.  Volunteering gave her the freedom and flexibility needed to put being a “mom” first, yet it helped her expand as a person.  She continued to be hooked!

With her video camera in hand, and notepad available, she set out to learn more about her ladies’ Bible study project – First Care Crisis Pregnancy Center.  Her life would never be the same.  "For the next ten years my passion and mission went from volunteerism to employment, which included teaching and speaking.  Working at First Care with women and teens in crisis formed me and developed me in to the Christian person I am today."  She is forever hooked!

In the fall of 2002, her service at WCS began as a concerned, volunteer parent, and became a staff position with a focus on working with other parents.  She began as someone who was simply willing to share her time to develop a cause – a campus of quality, concern, and community.  "Today I marvel at my blessings, which now include a grandson and I stay hooked!"

She invites everyone to join the school's team of volunteers who are making a difference!
